NTT DATA's Green Initiatives: Cutting Greenhouse Gas Emissions in the Digital Age

In the era of digital transformation and the rise of generative AI, greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from the IT sector have become a growing concern. At NTT DATA, we are committed to reducing our GHG emissions through ambitious targets.. This session will showcase our initiatives to reduce GHG e missions within our operations and across society.

Our efforts encompass monitoring worldwide trends and regulations while collaborating with the Green Software Foundation to set standards for software emissions calculation (SCI - ISO/IEC 21031:2024) and develop open-source solutions for emission reduction. We are also investing in R&D with tools such as the CO2/SCI Calculator and Carbon Aware Kubernetes to minimize IT emissions. As a major Data Center operator, we are integrating these technologies within our operations to decrease our GHG footprint.

Jody Elliott, Head of IT Risk and Sustainability at National Grid, and Poonam Kripalani, Senior Director, Digital Technology Asset & Supplier Business Management at ServiceNow, will discuss best practices in sustainability data management and demonstrate use of SustainableIT.org’s standards within ServiceNow’s ESG management platform. Working with a centralized data management platform for essential ESG data has emerged as a best practice in IT-enabled enterprise sustainability. Experienced practitioners and experts also stress the benefits of using tools or platforms with which users are already familiar. Elliott and Kripalani will emphasize the importance of having accurate, consistent, and standards-aligned data for use in goal setting, performance monitoring, compliance audits, and investment decisions.
